1. You find thread everywhere
Thread will be everywhere! I find thread on my tops, on my trousers, on my shoes, in my bed...I really do mean everywhere! I once took a trip to the beach a while ago and took of my headband and guess what...a piece of thread! I keep a lint roller to hand as it comes in very handy.
2. You can always find more room for more fabric
I have approximately 30 pieces of fabrics in my stash and they take up two entire drawers in a chest of drawer...but I can always find room for more. I am definitely addicted to buying fabrics.
3. When looking at ready-to-wear clothes, you inspect those clothes like you are looking down a microscope
Hmm...what's that I see...the stitching is not straight? No lining? But on the other side, I also find that when I know the technical name for a type of sewing I have to tell everyone about it. I often run over to the person I am shopping with and shout in their face, 'Look, they did a French seam!' They, of course, have no idea what I am talking about.
4. When people compliment you on your clothes that you made, you can't help but shout 'I made it!'
I also have embarrassingly dropped something in the conversation about my clothes in hopes that they will say, 'I like your [insert clothing you made]' and I will then shout 'I MADE IT!'
5. Every single time you go into a clothes shop, you find yourself uttering the words 'I could make that'
Shopping with me is a nightmare. If I don't run over to discuss the stitch length on the item of clothing, I will pick up something and say to you, 'I could make this.' I then proceed to make none of the clothes I have picked up because another sewing pattern has caught my eye.
6. When you see someone out you stare a and wonder if they have made their clothes whilst mentally going through your catalogue of patterns
I may look like I am either checking you out or stalking you but I promise you I am complimenting your clothes in my head and trying to remember it for the future.
7. You spend your time scrolling through Instagram/Twitter/Pinterest looking for inspiration
I am currently on a detox as I am a self-confessed Instagram addict. There is nothing I like more then after a long day at work is hours of scrolling through all of the hashtags
8. As soon as you book a holiday, it becomes a mad rush to sew as many items as you possibly can for it
Apparently I love frantically hemming a dress 4 hours before a holiday then proceeding to guard my suitcase like it has the crown jewels in it finally breathing a mental sigh of relief when I know I am on the plane with my handmade clothes safely above my head in the overhead luggage.
9. You forget that people who don’t sew have no idea what you are talking about
People will casually comment, ‘That’s a nice top’. You respond with, ‘What this? Oh its just the Tilly and the Buttons Fifi Pyjamas which is hacked into a camisole made with the bloom rayon in black.’ They usually respond with a very confused look.
10. You are totally in love with sewing and cannot imagine your life with it
Leaving the cutest one until last as I am genuinely in love with sewing and I cannot imagine my life without it!
